Polygonal Decomposition into Singular and Regular Regions

چکیده

This paper deenes a polygonal decomposition into regular and singular regions, a concept that is useful for skeleton extraction and part analysis. A preference relation is deened among symmetrical trapezoids contained in the polygon, so that a trapezoid can be preferred to other trapezoids. A set of most preferred trapezoids is used to deene regular regions. Regular regions correspond to the ones surrounded by smooth quasi-parallel contour lines. Singular regions are the polygonal regions that are not regular. An algorithm is proposed to calculate the decomposition.
